MAGIC is accepting mentee and mentor sign-ups for 2026–27!

Posted on by

Are you considering graduate school in psychological sciences, cognitive science, neuroscience, speech and hearing sciences, linguistics, or a related field? MAGIC connects aspiring graduate students with friendly faculty and graduate student mentors. They can help you explore whether grad school is right for you, find research experience, and prepare your applications.

We especially welcome students from underrepresented and historically marginalized groups and first-generation college students. You don’t need to be a UConn student, and you don’t need to have decided to apply yet.

To be matched with a mentor this fall, fill out this brief sign-up form (~5 min) by Friday October 9th. We aim to send matches by mid-October.

Interested in mentoring? Faculty, postdocs, and graduate students are welcome to sign up using the same form, whether or not you’re currently affiliated with UConn. We especially need mentors in clinical psychology.

Drop-in mentors are available!

Just a reminder that our drop-in mentoring program lets you connect with any available drop-in mentor whenever you need support. Simply click on the “Our Mentors” tab and look for the “Drop-in Mentors” link.

MAGIC mentees should have already received the password by email. If you have any questions or need help accessing the program, feel free to reach out!

Our first round of 2024 “Formal” (one-on-one) matches are out!

Everyone who requested a formal (one-on-one) match by October 4th should now have received a response! And signups remain open! We will continue to create formal matches throughout the fall (at least) on a rolling basis. Since this is application season, we’ll aim to get the next round out within 2 weeks.

AND stay tuned for more information about drop-in (ad-hoc) mentoring via the MAGIC website. With drop-in mentoring, mentees will also be able to reach out directly to other MAGIC mentors for advice – coming soon!

To get a MAGIC mentor by Oct 7, sign-up (~3min) by Wed, Oct 2!
